Pharmercy drops new single ‘Aftermath’; EP ‘Decay’ due in 2020

Australia’s psychedelic rock game has been ridiculously on-point this past decade, with a handful of juggernaut bands blazing a trail for the next generation of artists to follow. Cronulla‘s one-man-band Pharmercy is part of this emerging sect following in the footsteps of the forerunners before them – bringing his own unique style and perspective to the genre. Catchy, heartfelt and honest, his forthcoming EP Decay is a cathartic musical rollercoaster.

Every note, every beat, every word of Decay has come from Pharmercy – the alter-ego of multi-instrumentalist Liam Turner. Wielding a fierce level of musicianship, Pharmercy has become his most explosive outlet. The hooks are as sharp and catchy as any high-gloss pop masterpiece, the beats are angular yet danceable, and sewn throughout are layers of jaw-dropping musicianship that hints at lifelong hero worship of titans like Stevie Ray Vaughan. But musicianship is not the be-all of Decay, it is merely the vessel.

The true power of the songs comes from their honesty. A broken heart is often the greatest catalyst for art, and that is certainly true of Decay. Channelling the highly combustible fuel of a shattered relationship, Pharmercy has purged his emotions with every song on the EP, typified by latest single Aftermath.

Following on from Entropy released earlier in the year, Aftermath takes a simmering approach, led by an infectious bassline that launches the song in a myriad of different directions. Pharmercy’s precision and skill is well and truly on display as he fills open spaces with a lightning storm of effortless guitar solos that flicker around gusts of airy, soaring vocals. The soul-baring lyrics can be almost overlooked in this maelstrom of notes, yet they linger, ever-present, like an old wound.

Meticulously performed and produced, Turner has poured himself into Pharmercy and Decay – resulting in Aftermath being one of the most exciting singles of the year.
