APOLOGIES IF A VIDEO ISN’T AVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY
1 Good Pash – A Yacht in Sydney Harbour (295 )
Once upon a time Sydney Harbour looked like this. But now, in the year of SCOMO 01 it hasn’t managed to retain the patina we know it so well for. The music, lively Aussie indie rock that’s bearable enough. BTW, a pash is Australian for a snog.
2 Panther Modern – Ask Yourself (411)
Nice piece of electronic music rather than electronica and has a certain Cab Voltaire feel about it. We love bands named after big cats, it’s that simple.
3 Chupa Cabra – Violent Urges (641)
We get them as well. This is our favourite track of the week.
4 Gauche – Surveilled Society (522)
One of the main reasons we get violent urges is this surveilled society we live in and I should add is getting worse by the minute. Posty punky and a variation thereof is what’s contained within.
5 Magnolia Tree · Reese McHenry (368)
Nice bit of scuzz rock with a west coast feel. If you’ve heard Seattle rockers, Rose Windows, then you’ll know what we’re talking about. If not, grab a quick listen
6 Death Hags – Earthbound (169)
The promo says , “Inspired by Afrobeat as much as Autechre and Aphex Twin, this minimal abstract remix by Duress is cerebral, haunting and hypnotic.” All we can say is, band name of the week and a somewhat inexplicable video.
7 Ashikibaya (Sam Jones Construct) – Watch The Women (85)
In February 2018 producer Sam Jones went to Zanzibar with label boss Pete OntheCorner to reimagine the legacy of Siti Binti Saad. The project’s music director, Issa Matona, Muharam and students of the Dhow Countries Music Academy were led by Sam Jones over long days in the studio. Together they located a Taarab that channelled the percussive street sounds and poetic context that Binti Saad pioneered 90 years ago
8 Dubkasm – Enter the Gates (Egoless Remix) [feat. Rider Shafique] (528)
So good, new from Dubkasm and new from Deep Medi. No more need be said. Deep Medi is the classiest label on the planet.
9 Diarabi · Invisible System (27)
Afro electronica, new album released in October. This is probably the best track on the album.
10 Frank Cornilius – Computer Games (589)
Old school electro proto house / funk thing going on. Well worth a listen
