The JAB – Riot – Chicago’s Golden Crust Pizza

Good news! They can still rock in Chicago! And still make pizza!

I lived my first 26 years near Kimball and Foster in Chicago. I was a child, a teenager, and an adult in Chicago. I have been thoroughly marked by all of the city’s idiosyncracies.

One positive thing I still remember and miss was how easy it was to order great pizza in Chicago. Better pizza than you can ever get on the west coast was delivered right to your door. Anywhere west of Rick Nielsen’s mansion in Rockford, Illinois, this does not happen. On the internet, I looked up one of the old northside stoner pizza delivery joints, Golden Crust, and found that it’s still in operation. That shows how good it was. Only great pizza endures. (I can remember Golden Crust in operation as long ago as the seventies.) So, for those of you on the northside of Chicago, I commend it to you. This is an uncompensated plug. Order a pizza from Golden Crust and enjoy. Located at 4620 N. Kedzie, their website is here: gctap.com.

At any rate, The JAB band (above) from Chicago can still rock and they care about the world. Their video is very retro and hearkens back to the glory days of bar rock in Chicago in the 70s and 80s. As soon as I heard this song, memories of hot rockin’ days in Chicago and also the great pizza that was available there popped into my head. The guys in the JAB band look great. They’re all skinny. I bet they don’t eat much pizza at all. It’s their loss. Chicago claims to be a Catholic city like New Orleans or Rio de Janeiro, but the true religions of Chicago are pizza, beer, Classic Rock, the Cubs, the White Sox, the Blackhawks, the Blues, the Bulls, Italian Beef, Polish Sausage and the Bears.

This is a philosophical statement from the JAB band that tells you how they feel about the issues in this song and video:

“We pretend to care about the kids in sweatshops… but not as much as we love our Nikes. We pretend to care about people jumping off buildings in China… but not as much as we love our new iPhones. We pretend to care about the homeless… but not as much as our next vacation. Maybe we’re a bit too comfortable… Maybe it’s time to start a Riot?”- Jam Alker (The JAB)
