“The stresses and strains of an abusive, co-dependent relationship inspired the lyrics for the song,” says Nadia Vaeh. “When trapped in this relationship I was broken, and a shell of the person I should have been.” The track moves towards a more uplifting narrative, however, as Vaeh was able to eventually leave the relationship for good: “The contrast of then and now is crazy. Our past can shape us, but need not control us. We are more than our pasts. Where we will go or who we will be is our new story.”
In honor of this message, Vaeh will be donating the proceeds of “Boomerang” to Peace Over Violence, an organization dedicated to building healthy relationships, families, and communities free from sexual, domestic and interpersonal violence.
