My favorite part about the one inevitable show down between Bernie and Trump, is that never before have we seen a better example in modern American times of David vs Goliath.
Trump has Mother Russia, the courts, The Trolls, the Super Pacs, The Military, The Sheriffs, the RNC, a football to launch Nukes, a Billlion dollars, MAGA, the list goes on.
But Bernie, this little Jewish dude from Vermont, has a slingshot.
And in that slingshot isn’t even the DNC.
But there is nearly ever parable. He ain’t crying wolf. He ain’t lyin’. You can see him literally biting his lip so his whole movement and life’s work doesn’t come off the rails, because he takes the easy way out and tells it too much like it is.
David gets one shot at the Giant. He’s been practicing his whole life. He is there for a reason. Everyone else has failed.
Like Malcolm Gladwell said, the Giant isn’t what he seems. They have to cart him out to the field of battle. It’s a charade.
That stone is only as strong as we are. Are we going to fall for the same tricks? Are we going to compromise when we don’t have to?
AOC stood down Amazon as they came to New York and said give us the tax incentives and she knew the value of her culture and her people and New York City. She was called all the school yard names by monsters, and men, and bots who cast their lot.
But Amazon came anyway. She was the Warrior Princess that bluffed The Devil himself. It was a trick.
Wisdom doesn’t always come with age. At 28 a politician is a child, but she tricked the trickster. Maybe we should elect a few more servers and bartenders.
The first trick after Nevada came quicdk. They said Bernie was a commy because he praised Castro…the same way Obama did, huh?
A friend told me we weren’t as divided then, as if Trump’s Birther movement, the Tea Party, the trolls calling his wife a man, and Fox attacking his every movement and the tan color of his suit was an America singing Kumbaya. And oh, yeah banks were falling like Towers as Obama came into office as 8 years of post 911 Bush and the heavy bleeding of two front Wars had the entire World economy on the ropes because of our housing crisis!
No. Stop being fooled.
Remember no American election has ever been put off to my knowledge because of disease. Not even when The Spanish Flu killed tens of millions at the close of WW1.
Pick your David. And cast your lot if you will behind Goliath.
But this Gentile stands with Bernie.
Remember Eleanor Roosevelt. Remember Lincoln. Remember Teddy. Remember that those people, however we pick them apart, were at least courageous.
Be courageous. Or at least pick a champion that has spent his or her whole life trying to be.
