Graduates of Columbia University, the NYC based duo DELUNE are sisters Kate & Izzi and they’re incredibly fascinating. They’ve lived in Berlin, teaching music in a refugee camp. They’ve taught songwriting at Rikers Island and in 2018 they released two records and videos “Wild West Side Highway,”and “Those Days.”The duo will be releasing one song a month leading to an August album release date this year for a concept album titled, Pierrot, in homage to the sad clown in Commedia Dell’Arte: the fool in love, who breaks the fourth wall; constantly trapped in a cycle of falling in love, getting his heart broken, and repeating the cycle. This is the second single following “Lavender Too.”

Pull Quote: “So here’s the situation: you’re staring at your phone, wondering if they read your text, and if they’re thinking of you too. Suddenly, you get a notification; your heart flutters – they wrote back! …in a group chat. Sigh. When will you speak to me?
Morse Code laments missed signals with a hopeful edge — maybe, just maybe, they’re thinking of you too.”-

Fun Fact: DELUNE composed a line of real morse code into the instrumental, which translates to “love and kisses.” For decades, this signal was tapped out over telegrams to loved ones. In an era of constant communication, so much meaning still slips through the cracks. Perhaps nostalgic for the old days, Morse Code sends up a flare and hopes to get one back.

Sounds Like:Morse Code, described as an “electropop pump up ballad,” is the second single off of DELUNE’S debut album, Pierrot, a sonic homage to the Commedia Dell’Arte sad clown. Through orchestral arrangements, nostalgic harmonies, and Robyn-esque dance-the-pain-away beats, the sisters follow Pierrot’s journey as he tumbles hopelessly and aimlessly in and out of love. Fair comparisons: Upbeat Lana Del Rey sisters; dreamy Lorde; Robyn, Marina(s) and the Diamonds, Sia sisters, Lykke Li twins, Lucius, Verite, Grimes. |
