It’s astounding that almost 20 years after I first hassled the Butler brothers about releasing a new album, they finally did it. The video for the second single, “You’ll Be Mine,” dropped today. Classic Psychedelic Furs meets the 21st century, at last.
From our conversations, I got the impression that Richard and Tim might’ve had some confidence in themselves, but were less confident of a changed/changing audience and more importantly, changing music industry dynamics. Richard’s solo albums fared so-so at best; perhaps that was a factor. Since their reformation a couple of decades ago, the band has been satisfied to go out on the road every six months or a year with their back catalogue.
The new album, Made of Rain, is due out in May — ending the Furs’ 29-year hiatus from studio recording. Hurrah!
