GRLwood Premieres Video For Viral Hit, “I’m Yer Dad”

Today, viral queer punk duo GRLwood premiered a video for top track I’m Yer Dad, via WFPK. “I’m Yer Dad” was first released in May of 2018 as a single from the band’s debut album Daddy which followed in June. It recently went viral on TikTok and has been used in over 90,000 videos leading to over 2M streams on Spotify. The song is currently #5 on the US Viral Top 50 and has reached Spotify’s viral charts in several other countries including  Ireland, Poland, New Zealand, Finland, and Lithuania.

The video was filmed as part of the upcoming indie-horror movie Roommate Wanted, which was one of the last films to be shot in LA before the COVID-19 epidemic. The film is written and directed by Michael McCartney (Halloween: Resurrection, It Is Done, Conan O’ Brien, Law & Order, The Office, The Millionaires, faculty at the New York Film Academy) and centers around two college students who unintentionally sublease their extra bedroom to a violent, escaped mental patient and find themselves battling for survival against the many faces of white male rage that manifest and threaten them in their home. GRLwood is composing the film’s score, and is featured playing “I’m Yer Dad” live- which has been remastered into the new video.

Founded in August of 2017, GRLwood quickly took Louisville by its love-handles and kicked it in the balls. Made up of guitarist/singer Rej Forester and drummer Karen Ledford, the self-proclaimed “Kentucky-fried queerdos” came together when Karen saw Rej performing GRLwood as a solo project. Since then, the duo have been playing nonstop and have formed a strong following in their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky and abroad. They have been praised for the community they’ve cultivated, their explosive live performances, and most of all for their fearless and tireless gusto when it comes to dismantling the patriarchy and other toxic heteronormative ideologies through their music. GRLwood has been featured by the likes of Rolling Stone, Billboard, NPR, AV Club, NME, Alternative Press, Paste, Brooklyn Vegan and so much more!
