Toronto Band, Growers, Capture the Look and Sound of Rock in “The 90’s”

This is an incredibly good ’87-’96 tribute: Pixies, Posies, Replacements, Nirvana, Weezer, Matthew Sweet, the theme to “That 70s Show,” and (my favorite Seattle band of the era) Flake, all in a single song. What’s more, the official music video, below, is packed with dozens of smile-inducing visual homages to ’90s slacker film and TV.

Garage Rock band, GROWERS, bring a refreshing flavor with their summer single, “The 90’s”, released today on all digital music and streaming platforms. Packed with good vibes and catchy hooks, “The 90’s”, was written and composed by brothers Matt and Chris Raitt, and Charlie Joy, and recorded at Cylinder Sound studio in Toronto, ON, with renowned producer and engineer Brad Nelson (known for his work with Billy Talent, The Headstones, and Alanis Morissette), and mastered at Wreckhouse Mastering, by Peter Letros, former chief engineer of Sony Music Canada.

“The 90’s” is a pop-rock anthem soaked in nostalgia; attracting listeners with a child-like reminiscence of a simpler time filled with good music, fashion, and culture,” says GROWERS, and is bound to keep you humming along to its chorus while you relax and revel in the summer sun.

Formed in 2019, GROWERS is known for their upbeat original tracks including “My Little Lady” and “Hot Anxiety”, and their energetic live shows. With much more in store, GROWERS applied for two grants ($2,000 and $5,000) from FACTOR and the Ontario Arts Council, to record their debut album, which will feature original songs from their live sets and new material written during COVID-19 quarantine.
