Supreme electronic duo Kaleida’s eagerly anticipated second album, Odyssey , is now on the market, and quite awesome. These three songs are the first three singles from the work. Last year, Kaleida’s vocalist, Christine Wood, released Instar , a monumentally great work of ultracool Americana under the name of her alter ego, Vesper Wood. She also agreed to a Q and A with East Portland Blog for which we are eternally grateful.

We get asked a lot of questions about our writing process, so we thought we’d say a bit about the making of the title track to our new album, Odyssey – which it turns out did take a while to coalesce. Several years ago we were working on a track and just couldn't get it to click. We were messing around and reversed the sound waves of one of the melody lines on the computer; out came the hazy outlines of a different melody, which inspired the chorus for Odyssey. It had an escapist, otherworldly quality to it that we liked. We still weren't sure where it was going though, so we left it, made the Tear the Roots album, and last year came back to it, trying out the verse parts from another demo with that chorus. It finally fell into place. We wanted the production to be nostalgic and spacious, and we wanted a human warmth to go with the lyrical themes of vulnerability, self-realisation etc – so we used acoustic drums, real bass guitar and guitar, and strings. The piano riff added another layer of journey. The track was originally a lot longer with some more expansive instrumental sections, but we felt we had to make it concise for the album 🙂 Live in 2021, this one could take on a whole new horizon… #odyssey #makingof #musicproduction #newmusic #theprocess
