Emm & May is a rambunctious folk-bump about summer romances — past summer loves, and the ones about to happen. First kisses, bonfires, handholding, leaning into one another, looking up at the stars, wondering together at the meteor showers; all told through the eyes of the guy in the corner with a guitar, with an unexpected plot twist. The tune was written by Canadian songwriter Craig Cardiff after playing for a crowded show in Victoria, BC. He was watching young love start, and the hopefulness of summer romance lead the couple out into the night and inspired Cardiff to start composing.
The video features songwriter / actor Lane Webber and was directed by Jennifer Besworth. Cardiff is notably absent from the video, a decision the songwriter himself said, seemed obvious: “I am about letting THEM (actors and director) tell the story. The video isn’t about me. It’s about this beautiful sweet short love story. The song might be from my brain, but I wanted to capture it from a completely different perspective.”
The song below, “To Be Safe Loved & Home,” is another catchy recent release and the cover of Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” below was featured on the NBC television drama, This Is Us.
And here’s the nifty Dylan cover which penetrated American television:
