Mexico City’s Renee Mooi is one of the country’s most gifted singers and tireless creators. As an independent artist she has released acclaimed records and collaborations, performed in festivals and clubs throughout the world and created Mooi Collective, a platform, alt-venue, and community of creatives across artistic mediums.
Todd Clouser is an internationally celebrated creative guitarist, songwriter, and producer, performing over 200 concerts a year on 5 continents in some of the world’s leading jazz and rock festivals, clubs, working as a philanthropist with his program Music Mission with credits collaborating with artists from John Medeski to Flea to John Zorn.
Mooi and Clouser both mainstays in Mexico City’s independent music scene, find common ground in unfiltered emotion and a dedication to individual artistry. The two share a love for the unpredictable and a dedication to discovery that has resulted in a unique body of work over 8 years and 3 EP’s of collaborative efforts.
The duo’s newest release is “Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride”, is a single track that is perhaps their most refined work to date. Mooi’s voice carries the ballad from solemnity to triumph, with flourishes of electronica, song craft, and experimentation all coloring the poetic slant of Clouser’s lyrics. Buy The Ticket/Take The Ride/Abandon Your Bones sings Mooi. It sounds equal parts plea and provocation, confession and persuasion.
Mooi and Clouser plan a series of single releases in collaboration with Mexico City artists throughout 2021. Undefined, and unmotivated by, any one musical genre, expect surprise and innovation with each track.
The song was recorded at Fonobox studios in Mexico City, written by Clouser, and produced by Clouser, Luis Ros, and Mooi.
