Maria Becerra, the most-streamed artist from Argentina, released her highly-anticipated debut album Animal today. The album comes on the heels of Becerra becoming the first Argentine singer to surpass 24 million monthly listeners on Spotify. She also premiered the music video for “Wow Wow” featuring Becky G.
In the past year, the 21-year-old singer has gone from Argentina’s top artist to global pop star. In VEVO on YouTube’s list of the most-viewed Latin music videos of 2021 in the U.S., Becerra has two videos in the top 10. Her collaboration “Qué Más Pues” with J Balvin reached the top 10 on Spotify’s Global 200 chart. The song has over 244 million streams. Becerra teamed up with Latin pop star, Becky G, for her new single “Wow Wow.” The reggaeton song is a girl power anthem about overcoming heartbreak. In the high-energy music video, Becerra and Becky G throw a pool party for undernourished and overserved fashion models.
“Wow Wow” is a standout track on Becerra’s debut album Animal. The album also features Becerra’s tropical hit “Cazame” with Argentine rapper Tiago PZK. The song has over 28 million streams on Spotify. Becerra shows her versatility on the album with the vulnerable “Mi Debilidad”. The heartfelt song has over 11 million streams. In the refreshing song “No Eres Tú, Soy Yo,” she teamed up with Venezuelan singer Danny Ocean. Animal also features Becerra’s hits like “Acaramelao,” a song that blends trap with salsa music, including a sample of Luis Enrique’s hit “Yo No Se Mañana.” The song has over 39 million streams. There’s another girl power anthem, “Animal,” with Argentine rapper Cazzu. The song has over 55 million streams and 81 million views on YouTube. The Animal cover art features Becerra’s hands gripping her logo that’s in the shape of a heart. Throughout the album, Maria goes on a journey of romance and heartbreak, representing the strength and fragility of the emotion.
In June, Becerra was highlighted as Spotify RADAR’s Discover New Artists on the Horizon. Becerra was also selected by Apple Music as a rising artist included in the UP NEXT LATAM program. With more than 6 million followers across all social media platforms, Becerra has managed to translate these numbers to impressive streams and views in the digital music platforms. Her YouTube channel has over 753 million views in total.
In July 2020, Becerra became the first Latin artist to sign with 300 Entertainment, which includes American hip-hop stars like Megan Thee Stallion and Young Thug. Throughout October and November, Becerra will be performing in 22 sold out shows at Buenos Aires’ prestigious Teatro Gran Rivadavia.
