Gunerius & Verdensveven is a Norwegian one-man band, consisting of artist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Thomas Gunerius Bergsten. Those familiar with Norwegian psych-scene might have heard him in bands like The Harvey Steel Show and the Secret Sound of Dream Walkers, in addition to releasing jazz records as Thomas Bergsten. He is as busy as he is creative.
He set the course with last year’s debut album as Gunerius & Verdensveven “Samtidig på den andre siden av byen” where he created a unique microtonal, psychedelic, clubby and weirdly catchy sonic universe. The new album “Der går nabolaget” (which translates to “There goes the neighborhood“) continues on the same path, but now with some added new wave flair to its step.
The first single from the album was ‘Diamanter og Dopamin’, a new wavey and super catchy psych-banger. The rest of the album consists of a blend of Norwegian language (sometimes spoken word) and instrumentals, that jumps schizophrenically from genre to genre. There’s influences from pretty much every corner of the world with organic and electronic beats. A truly unique album from a truly unique artist.
When meeting up with Kenneth Ishak who mixed the album Gunerius said he wanted to album to sound like this:
“something that sounded like a hidden treasure one could find at the flea market, an album that could be re-released in 30 years after selling 234 copies maybe?”
We think they nailed it.
