Big, hype, gritty earworm not only features hip-hop-meets-punk-pop wordsmith JordyPurp –but it also touches on a heavier perspective lyrically than listeners are accustomed to hearing from Rightfield.
Dynamic pop-rock duo Rightfield – comprised of Jack Blocker and Reed Hoelscher – had a homerun year in 2021. Among other milestones, the charismatic pair played a series of sold-out shows across Texas, completed a national fall tour, and broke the Top 50 at Alternative Radio.
Now, Rightfield has released “Boys Don’t Cry,” the third single from their highly anticipated sophomore album dropping later this year.
Officially out June 24 via Quadio Records, “Boys Don’t Cry” features hip-hop-meets-punk-pop wordsmith and fellow rising star JordyPurp. JordyPurp is known for his collaborations with artists like As It Is, Set it Off, and FEVER 333.
“This song is about us growing up in the south around a certain type of show no emotion hyper-masculinity where we had to be everything our dads wanted us to be,” shares Hoelscher.
“When I was nine, I broke two of my fingers at school, but we had a baseball tournament the next day and my dad was the coach, so he asked me if I was good to still play the tournament and of course, I said yes instead of getting my fingers fixed. To this day I don’t have use of one of my fingers because I thought the right thing to do was ‘rub it in the dirt’ and move on.”
Despite its deeply meaningful lyrics, “Boys Don’t Cry” finds Rightfield doing what they do best – pumping out loud, amped up, and just-plain-fun “intimate bangers” that make fans “mosh the night away” – songs that are somehow both sweeping and intimate, bold and personal.
On the collaboration with JordyPurp, Quadio Records vice president, Abir Hossain, shares that “JordyPurp is the definition of a genre-bending – or genreless – artist. With Rightfield exploring new sounds and territory on this upcoming album, he seemed like a perfect fit. And he really did play an integral role in bringing the song to life. We knew it would be special all along – from the first demo that came out of a co-write with Little Hurt, to the production touches Zach Jones and Reed [Hoelscher] put on it.”
Formed at the University of Arkansas, Rightfield has now amassed over six million streams on Spotify and over 11 million across all platforms. Their single “Gone” charted on Alt Radio, and their other releases have been featured on Spotify Soda, Morning Coffee, and Apple Music New in Rock. The duo has also secured radio placements with several notable stations, including KYRK-Corpus Christi, KXRK-Salt Lake City, WRRV-Poughkeepsie, WQSH-Albany, KXNA Fayetteville Arkansas, and KACV-Amarillo.
With their new album dropping in 2022, you’ll certainly see Rightfield’s meteoric rise. And if you don’t see it, it’s because you’re late.
