Jim Basnight – “You Know I Know” and “Blow Your Life Away”

Seattle Indie Rock legend Jim Basnight is back with a single formed of two delicate, beautiful, classic pop tunes from his Early Years album: “You Know I Know” and “Blow Your Life Away.”

“’You Know I Know’”’ was written in 1976,” says Basnight, “and was one of my first tunes. It became a staple of my earlier band the Meyce (1975-77), prior to my first move to NYC. The Meyce recorded an earlier version in 1976 at a Seattle studio, but this one was recorded at the same sessions in the summer of ’79, produced by Neltner.”

The tune features Jim Basnight guitar and vocal, Steve Grindle bass and backing vocal, Ernie Sapiro guitar and backing vocal, Bill Walters drums and backing vocal, produced by Ned Neltner at Holden, Hamilton and Roberts Studios Seattle WA, mastered by Garey Shelton.

“’Blow Your Life Away’ was written in NYC, in the summer of ’77 at the Vanderbilt YMCA on East 47th Street,” says Basnight, “and was recorded in Redmond WA in the spring of ’79. I was struggling to stay afloat in NYC when I wrote it and weighing what to do next. I had promised my grandfather that if I came back to Seattle, I would go back to school (I broke my promise), and I was conflicted as to what to do. I had given NYC everything and couldn’t quite keep up, but I was determined to not let go of my songs.”

“It’s probably the closest I came to suicide,” Basnight admitted recently.

This tune features, Jim Basnight guitar and vocal, Steve Grindle bass, Jeff Cerar guitar, Bill Walters drums, produced by Brian Fox and David Perry at Pacific West Studios Redmond WA, mastered by Garey Shelton.
