LYN LAPID JOINS FORCES WITH RUTH B. FOR NEW SINGLE “DO U REALLY?”

NEW YORK, NY – FEBRUARY 3RD, 2023 – Today, 20-year-old breakout songstress Lyn Lapid recruits Canadian singer and songwriter Ruth B. for her new single “Do U Really?” out now on Mercury Records/Republic Records—listen HERE.

After a delicate piano intro, “Do U Really?” glides along on a hypnotic guitar-laden beat. Lyn’s vocals echo with unfiltered emotion as she asks, “Do you really want to fall in love? Do you really want to settle down? Or are you happy just to mess around?” It showcases her growth as an artist, vocalist, and lyricist, placing her talents and spirit in the spotlight.

On the song, Lyn Lapid says, “I’ve been a huge fan of Ruth B. ever since she was posting on Vine, I really resonated with her music and watching her transition to making music professionally after Vine inspired me to start posting my singing covers on TikTok in the first place. So when I was asked if I wanted to hop on a potential collab song with Ruth back in 2020, I freaked out. It’s crazy how this song has been in the drafts since even before I released my very first single, but getting to finally finish this song and work alongside Ruth B. has been nothing but wonderful. Ruth is so talented and such a sweet person irl, and if I told my 12-year-old self who was probably binge watching her vines in 2014 that I was gonna sing with her one day, she would have passed out.”

“Do U Really?” sets the stage for Lyn’s soon-to-be-announced sophomore EP. Stay tuned for the song’s official visual to arrive soon.

2022 was a major year for Lyn Lapid. Last fall, she dropped her tracks “Saturn” and “Detached,” while quickly selling out her US headline tour in just a few days, which included shows in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. ABOUT RUTH B
Sleek, chic, and honest – a voice in a million. It was the year of 2022 – that was when Ruth B.’s career was truly jettisoned into the stars. Ruth B.’s song “Dandelions” was locked at #33 on the Spotify Top 100 Most Streamed Songs of 2022, and at the time also surpassed over One Billion Total Streams. Then along came Tyler Perry’s feature film A Jazzman’s Blues with Ruth B.’s beautiful composition used as the end title song, “Paper Airplanes”. To follow it all up came “Jupiter Rising” from R&B young superstar Rod Wave utilizing Ruth’s new song, “Paper Airplanes” as the musical bed for his R&B hit single. Early 2023 brings more hits on the horizon with “Always You” the theme song from the major motion picture Maybe I Do, to the young singer Lyn Lapid’s hot new Republic Records track “Do You Really” composed by and featuring Ruth B. on vocals. These songs will certainly be added into Ruth B.’s over 3 billion global song streams. With the breakout success of her 2015 triple-platinum debut single “Lost Boy,” Ruth B. emerged as an immediately captivating artist who drifts between moody realism and a dreamworld of her own making. An occasional poet who created her own storybooks as a child, the Canadian-Ethiopian singer/songwriter/pianist infuses all her songs with a raw emotional honesty, even as she lets her imagination wander into fantastically charmed terrain. Ruth B. released her beautiful sophomore album Moments In Between in June 2021. Here, Ruth pushes that dynamic to a new level of boldness and sophistication, embracing her most beautifully strange impulses while delivering her most impactful work to date. As the daughter of immigrants from Ethiopia, Ruth grew up on music from her parents’ native country and later discovered the artists who would become formative influences on her songwriting, such as Stevie Wonder and Lauryn Hill. After taking up piano at the age of eight and singing her entire life, Ruth began writing songs in her late teens and soon came up with “Lost Boy.” Initially posted on Vine in 2015, the Peter Pan-inspired piano ballad quickly went viral, with listeners undeniably drawn to Ruth’s heart-on-sleeve storytelling. By the end of 2015, she’d released her gold-certified debut EP The Intro, which led to such triumphs as winning Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2017 Juno Awards. Made with producers like Joel Little (Lorde, Taylor Swift) and Mike Elizondo (Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor), her gold-certified full-length debut Safe Haven arrived in 2017 and earned her three Juno nominations, including Album of the Year and Artist of the Year. Executive-produced by Patrick Wimberly (Solange, Blood Orange, Ellie Goulding), Moments In Between finds Ruth also working with producers like Ido Zmishlany (Demi Lovato, Shawn Mendes), Justin Raisen (Angel Olsen, Santigold), Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers, Ashe), and D’Mile (a five-time Grammy Award-winner known for his work with Khalid and Ty Dolla $ign). In a departure from the minimalist alt-pop of Safe Haven, the album unfolds in a more elaborate and kaleidoscopic sound, yet never overshadows the understated power of Ruth’s vocals or the pure vulnerability of her songwriting. “For me writing songs has always been therapeutic, and I hope that hearing my songs helps other people in the same way,” she says. “Whether they’re feeling lonely or heartbroken or happy, I want them to know that someone else understands what they’re going through.”
