LaLion – whose real name is Grant Lalaian – is about to knock you down with his brand new EP, GET UP!. The Seattle-native / Salt Lake City-based artist blends and fuses genres to create a sound all his own, proving that he’s a musical beast to be reckoned with.
Written, mixed, mastered, and produced by LaLion, GET UP! officially drops on February 10 via AntiFragile Music.
“Each song is a dive into the inner dialogue I have with myself,” shares LaLion.
“Whether it’s reminding myself that I need to ‘Get Up’ and continue working towards my goals and ‘what’s new’ or acknowledging that at times my ‘woes’ control my ‘bad mood.’”
Yes, those are all song titles LaLion just referenced. GET UP! features the songs “Get Up,” “What’s New,” “UrWoes,” and “Bad Mood,” which Atwood Magazine calls “unapologetic,” and an “ultimately endearing, cathartic palate cleanse” with “an industrial beat and fierce, cutting vocals.”
GET UP! also features the buzz track, “A Lie,” which is a song from the perspective of two bank-robbing lovers.
“The first verse details the couple robbing the bank claiming that it’s a bitter robbery, but no one hidden has to bleed,” explains LaLion. “The second verse details the thoughts the man has while escaping from the bank, he’s been shot and may die, but still in his mind he’s going over the troublesome relationship he has with his partner.”
The stylistically versatile – some might say unpredictable – LaLion has been a musician since the age of six. His production style is reflective of his upbringing. A first-generation American born into an immigrant family, LaLion has always dreamt of being great.
Between the ages of 13 and 16, LaLion played in several bands, though none of them panned out. Then at age 17, LaLion gave up on being in a band, purchased a $20 microphone, and immediately started releasing music on his own. Since then, he has been released a song every week.
Within the first two years of his career, he released a single titled “Be Jay-Z” which amassed over 1.5 million streams and earned him a spot on Skyzoo’s “In Celebration of Us” tour across Washington. He has also opened for acts such as R.A. The Rugged Man, A-F-R-O, and D Savage, and been featured on Spotify editorial playlists like Varsity Bars, Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Hip-Hop, and The Sound of Deep Underground Hip Hop.
With almost 40 million streams on Spotify alone, LaLion has no plans on slowing down.
“The music I make is a mix of all my influences,” says LaLion. “It is a mix of rock, rap, and pop music. One of my goals is to combine of all these genres and establish a new style of music that no one has heard yet but is still easily consumed and played on the radio.”
