Garfield High School in East L.A.. Tickets for Los Lobos’ 50th Anniversary Concerts are on sale this Friday, June 16th at 10:00am Local Time. Please see the 50th Anniversary tour dates below.
The band’s Louie Perez, Jr. says “We’re very excited and proud to announce that we’ll be playing at The Escalante Auditorium at James A. Garfield High School in East Los Angeles as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations. Garfield High is our alma mater and where we all met. It remains a huge part of who we are. There will always be a special place in our hearts for Garfield High. We may be wolves, but we’re also Bulldogs for life.”
Over the past 50 years, Los Lobos have created an unprecedented body of work and a legacy of greatness. The numbers are staggering: 100+ gigs a year for five decades running, crossing millions of miles to rock millions of fans. They’ve recorded 17 studio albums, 7 live LPs, released 3 compilations, 2 EPs, 2 DVDs, and contributed over 40 guest appearances on their friends’ recordings — all garnering 4 Grammy Awards, an Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction, the ALMA Ritchie Valens Pioneer Award, NEA and Hispanic Heritage Foundation Honors, Congressional recognition, plus countless “Keys to the City” and “Los Lobos Day” celebrations.
Five Brothers who have dedicated their off-stage time to helping others, working for peace and justice, penning some of the most literate and important music of their time, transforming the hard cries from the East L.A. barrio into songs of hope, tales of common folk finding ways to endure. As proud Chicanos, their songs have always glistened with the distillation from their Mexican and Latin American roots. Los Lobos have helped spread the rich diversity of cultures across every continent, throughout the global community. And in the true rebel spirit, they did it all on their own terms, against formula. Quite simply, they are one of the tightest, one of the best, one of the most prolific bands ever. And, amazingly, with the original founding members as the pack the entire time. Unprecedented.
Los Lobos still are David Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Jr., Cesar Rosas, Conrad Lozano, Steve Berlin.
Los Lobos’ Grammy Award Winning 2021 Album Native Sons is available NOW via NEW WEST RECORDS. The 13-song album was produced by Los Lobos in East Los Angeles and found the band mapping their musical DNA as a kaleidoscopic selection of tribute songs from their homeland, ultimately creating a crucial snapshot of L.A.’s musical heritage. Met with wide critical acclaim, David Fricke said in his 4 Star MOJO review, “Pin Ups en Espanol: East LA’s greatest dance band hosts a ‘covers’ party,” while Uncut Magazineawarded the album 8 out of 10 stars. Mother Jones said “They are a national treasure,” while the actor, comedian, and podcast host Marc Maron exclaimed “Los Lobos makes almost all other bands look like novelty acts.”
