GOODNIGHT, TEXAS + RAINBOW GIRLS’ NEW SINGLE “TOUGH” IS OUT TODAY

Following the release of their well-received 2022 studio album, How Long Will It Take Them To Die,the folk-rock band Goodnight, Texas are set to release their new stand-alone single “Tough” also featuring Rainbow Girls.

Singer/songwriter Avi Vinocur shares a bit more on this poignant folk-country number, “When I met Erin Chapin from Rainbow Girls about seven years ago I very quickly knew I wanted to sing with her. Over the subsequent mid to late 2010s, we would text each other voice memo covers – and on a couple of occasions sang them together at their band-hosted open mic nights at their house.

Late last year, I challenged myself to write a duet after falling into a big ’60s and ’70s country rabbit-hole. Writing a duet was something I had never done before, and immediately I hoped it would fit Erin. I texted it to her in a voice memo and was elated that not only she, but her bandmates were into the idea. It became ‘Tough.’

We shot the video with director Corey Powers in two very different parts to capture the distance described in the lyrics and the difficulty of maintaining relationships while being a touring musician, something Erin and I and our respective partners know very well.”

Goodnight, Texas is an undefinable storytelling folk-rock band whose strength lies in unexpected sweet spots. Drawing their name from Avi and fellow singer/songwriter Patrick Dyer Wolf‘s onetime geographic midpoint (the real town of Goodnight in the State of Texas, a tiny hamlet east of Amarillo directly betwixt San Francisco, CA and Chapel Hill, NC), the band also exists at the center of its songwriters’ contrasting styles — via a 1913 Gibson A mandolin and a 2015 Danelectro, at the crossroads of folk and blues and rock ‘n’ roll, in a place where dry wit and dark truths meet hope and utmost sincerity.
