17-year-old Dominican rap phenom, J Noa, receives her first Latin Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Hip Hop Song for the track “Autodidacta” from her debut EP, Autodidacta. The EP, which was released in May, is a powerful display of her lyrical prowess and versatility as a rapper and artist. The self-proclaimed “daughter of rap” utilizes her razor-sharp lyrics to create consciousness and talk about her real-life experiences as a black woman growing up in one of the toughest neighborhoods of Santo Domingo and being a woman in the male dominated rap game.
“’Autodidacta’ is the song on my EP that I managed to write the fastest. This nomination makes me very happy because I wrote this song at a time when I had to improve as an artist and show the best of me. I was angry when I wrote it and I actually forced myself to write it. I wrote ‘Autodidacta’ by myself early in the morning and the result was incredible. I never thought I would be nominated for a Grammy, being from San Cristobal, a neighborhood where there are few opportunities. It’s a challenge and to show that you can do great things regardless of where you come from. Anything can be achieved. Thank you God, my team and my talent for taking me here,” affirms J Noa.
The 24th Annual Latin Grammy Awards will take place at the Conference and Exhibition Centre (FIBES) in Sevilla, Spain on Thursday, November 16th. The telecast, produced by TelevisaUnivision in collaboration with Radio Televisión Española (RTVE), will air via Univision.
