In an excerpt from her book, Ashley writes, “…Looking back, I can clearly see that when life began spinning out of control, I did not know Jesus the way I am describing Him to you now. Nevertheless, it was in that fire of the furnace of testing that I encountered the love, grace, mercy, and power of Jesus Christ and was supernaturally set free. Jesus filled me with His love and power, healing me from the inside out and I have never been the same. This supernatural encounter with Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit, released a process of purification and sanctification leading to a complete personal life transformation! Today I have come to know that our victory in the Christian life is all about our relationship with Jesus, who is the “living water” and the “bread of life” (John 4:10; John 6:35). One of my favorite stories in scripture is of Mary Magdalene. She was abused and possessed by demons, likely living the life of a prostitute. She was violated and broken in every way a woman can be. How do I know? Scripture tells us that Jesus cast seven demons out of her! Jesus clearly gave an astounding response to this woman, who was despised by the religious leaders of her day. “Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little” (Luke 7:47). From this encounter with Jesus, Mary went on to become one of His most loyal and devoted followers and was even the first to see Jesus when He rose from the dead! The story of Mary’s Magdalene’s conversion is a beautiful model for us to look to when considering the power of placing our faith in Jesus Christ. When we are in a relationship with Jesus Christ as a result of being rescued from our sin, shame, and condemnation, we cannot help but want to worship Him for who He is: King of Kings and Lord of lords! From this place in the spirit, religious ritual and a list of “shoulds” in our lives can be transformed into desire to serve the Lord because we want to – not because we feel obligated to. When we encounter the true love of Jesus, we become lovers of Him, and it becomes our joy and passion to serve him with our whole hearts!…”
