A longtime musician and veteran of the Seattle music scene who played in various punk and indie bands, Starvation Wages has Jason Dean branch out into a new direction armed with a variety of synthesizers and samples aiming for the bodies and minds of adventurous listeners.
Marketplace Fear, the debut EP from Starvation Wages, was honed through live performances when possible, during the height of the pandemic years and the project is looking to thrive in the spaces made for this music, underground DIY spaces, illegal warehouse raves and dance clubs creating safe spaces for all as a priority.
“Though the cold war is considered history,” says Jason Dean, “and the atomic threat somewhat diminished since Allen Ginsberg wrote the iconic “go f*ck yourself with your atom bomb.” line sampled in the Starvation Wages track, Anatomized, America continues to use the equivalent of this most destructive of weapons on its citizens every day. The damage caused by the consolidation of wealth, omnipresent racism, inequality, and the anemic funding of social services compared to military defense budgets is the new atomic bomb and it still begs the question, “America, when will you end the human war?”
