Lawless Barbecue Opens Second Location at My-O-My Bar
PORTLAND, Ore. — November 8, 2023 — Lawless Barbecue has launched a new second location to provide its authentic Kansas City barbecue to patrons of the My-O-My bar on Northeast Sandy Boulevard.
Lawless has developed a devoted following during its past two years at the Little Beast Brewing Beer Garden, and owner Kevin Koch was looking for a new opportunity to expand his business. “The timing with My-O-My was perfect,” said Koch. “I wanted to grow Lawless, and My-O-My wanted our food. Their bar is unique—not just for the neighborhood, but for Portland—and I can’t wait to introduce real Kansas-style barbecue to a new corner of town.”
Koch was born and raised in Kansas and moved to Portland from Kansas City where he managed a local restaurant chain. But the longer he was here, the more he missed the barbecue he’d grown up with. So he took up cooking barbecue as a hobby, developing recipes for some of his favorite foods. By the end of 2020, he had perfected a menu’s worth of dishes and decided to rent a commercial kitchen space and offer authentic, Kansas City-style barbecue for take-out and delivery across the city during Covid. That grew into the partnership providing the food for Little Beast Brewing’s Southeast Division beer garden, where the brisket, burnt ends and ribs continue to pair perfectly with the brews.
The second Lawless Barbecue location’s menu will be distinct from the first, and will develop over time as Koch gets to know his new customers’ preferences. The new menu features smoked chicken wings and smoked ribs with a selection of sauces, and will eventually expand to include brisket and other dishes. Koch plans to tailor his recipes to suit the clientele of the My-O-My, known for its tiki-inspired cocktails and mocktails and inviting mid-century aesthetic. The Lawless food truck has taken over the space on the patio previously occupied by Monster Smash Burgers.
Lawless Barbecue at My-O-My can be found at 8627 NE Sandy Boulevard, and is serving Kansas-style barbecue Tuesday through Sunday.
