Nov. 16, 2023 – Today, Nashville-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Conner Youngblood shares his new single “All They Want Is Violence,” a swirling odyssey inspired by his love for horror films. The new song finds him stacking his elastic vocals into an eerie choir as he builds an entire universe out of the five-word song title. “All They Want Is Violence” is Youngblood’s first new music in five years, and his first release for Missing Piece Records.

“The crazy part about ‘All They Want Is Violence’ only being one line long lyrically is the fact that it took me like four to five years to come up with,” shares Youngblood. “The instrumental was a very quick thing I made while I was just messing around during another song’s studio session and then had no idea what to do with it for years. It constantly bothered me and I would try to approach writing on top of it every few months for years. I think I was just finally inspired to say something about violence while watching way too many horror movies. I was watching the 1980s horror film Inferno while writing and recording the vocals, I definitely had (Julia Ducournau’s film) Titane on at some point during this as well. Crazy movie. I’ve seen it maybe five times by now.”

Hailed by Pitchfork for his “ambient, intimate…songs that blossom gently with intricate musical details and enigmatic lyrics,” Conner Youngblood gained early acclaim with a series of self-released singles and EPs before breaking out internationally with his 2018 full-length debut, Cheyenne, which fused electronic and analog elements into a lush mix of bedroom pop and chamber folk. The Guardian compared the Dallas native to Elliott Smith and Nick Drake, dubbing him “One To Watch” for his “quietly striking” performances, which have included international dates with the likes of Janelle Monae, SOHN, KT Tunstall, and Milky Chance. Self-produced, written and recorded in his Nashville bedroom, “All They Want Is Violence” is Youngblood’s first release in five years.
