Kendall Sallay, aka Starover Blue, says that her delicate, beautiful song “Magdala,” was “written days after the death of my close friend and fellow indie musician Dominic Miranda,” and for that and several other reasons, the tune is very special to her and to the Portland music scene.
“Before my friend passed in October 2020, he encouraged me not to beat myself up over a long dry patch with no songwriting,” Sallay says, and “when he died, this song came into my head, and it felt like a parting gift from him. It also contains a clip of a voicemail he left me. It means a lot to me to finally get this out.”
So, all you Portlanders, come on out and celebrate this song, this parting gift, this memory of the beautiful musical gifts of Dominic and Kendall and Starover Blue by loving life and sharing fellowship on this night of music at Holocene…
