Today, Kutcher also revealed her forthcoming debut album House on the Water will release on January 26th. The project encapsulates feelings of reflection and nostalgia while simultaneously looking towards the future. The album spans a broad range of sounds and emotions, but still remains true to Ashley’s country-pop leaning melodies, storytelling lyricism, and sounding instrumentation. “Trustfall” marks the latest single to release from the project. While discussing the song, Kutcher shared where she first learned to trustfall. “Trusting someone is probably one of the most vulnerable things we can do. That person can either lift us up or let us fall. Trustfall is about falling for someone who couldn’t catch you on the way down.”
On the meaning of upcoming album’s title, she shared “growing up in a house on the water in Maryland has always been a part of who I am,” she says. “By the water is where we listen to music, swim, play games, and really just connect as people. I always knew in my older years that I wanted to end up with the love of my life in a little house on the bay just like my parents did.”
“I was young and naive, I lied with him and he lied over and over again,” the 25-year-old sings amidst piano and string flourishes. She then pulls even harder on the heartstrings on the chorus: “He said, ‘Honey I’ll catch you,’ so I stepped off the ledge — all he had to do was open his arms and let me in.”
“Trustfall” is Kutcher’s first new release since her meditative track “Favorite Color” just a few weeks ago. It was preceded by a batch of powerful tracks including “Matchbox,” “Boy From Carolina,” “Everyone and No One,” andthebittersweet “I Can’t Swim.” All this follows the artist’s breakout 2022, which saw the release of her EP Survive on My Own, featuring singles “Sleepy,” “Emotionless” and “Love You More.” Now, with “Trustfall,” Kutcher ups the ante even further, delivering her most unfiltered and personal track to date.
