This one’s a great record, people!
After a string of 6 singles, Small Miracles make their long form debut with their (freakin’ amazing) Live at Rockfield EP. Consisting of four tracks, all recorded live, Small Miracles show off their range of material and the scope of their sonic capacity with style. Technicolour alludes to their earlier more groove-based material, while Sign of the Times hints at a different musical direction – piano led, built on a Hip Hop drum groove with sparse, open instrumentation. Do You Want Me? is a genre-bending late night tune with hints of psychedelia and a heavy breakdown, and Berlin, the EP closer, sees the band take a slower, more spacious approach , with deep, story telling lyrics and expansive breaks.
As a whole, the EP shows the range and breadth of what Small Miracles can achieve with a long form release, with the quality and individuality of the iconic Rockfield Studio shining through on every track. The cohesion of the band is evident through the performance and Andrew Sanders’ production adds massively to the polished feel of the record. The Live at Rockfield EP will be released on Decemeber 1 2023 with a full, documentary style live video and a run of vinyl alongside.
Small Miracles are a band fuelled by the desire to challenge the status quo with their music and spread love and joy through their live performance. Their genre-bending sound holds a distinct sonic space, drawing from the intensity of Grunge and Post-Punk and the grooves of early New Wave and Disco, all infused with an obsession for melody and hooks. The quintet write all their music together with a cohesion that is clear in the diversity and ambition of their sound.
Since debuting in November 2021, Small Miracles’ live show has become a staple of the South Wales’ scene. They are cathartic experiences that bring together audiences to express their rage and relief, in unison with the electric abandon of frontperson Finn Pelling. The live show brings a message of queer solidarity and non-conformity that teeters between control and chaos, equal parts aggressive and vulnerable.
Small Miracles have garnered radio support from 6Music, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and more. Hailed by Adam Walton as ‘fantastic, fantasmagoric, brilliant… all kinds of seedy excellence’, Small Miracles are a force to be reckoned with and an exciting prospect for the future. Their latest single ‘Bad Stars’ was released on October 17 2023 on Dirty Carrot Records, to be followed by a full EP, ‘Live at Rockfield’ on December 1 2023.
