Australian Pop Sensation Beks Unveils Debut EP “I’m That Girl” set to release on March 22nd and Releases New Single “The Best Part of Breaking Up” Alongside Official Music Video

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – 19 January 2024 – Australian pop sensation Beks is poised to make a lasting impression on the global music scene with the release of her debut EP, “I’m That Girl,” set to hit the airwaves on March 22nd 2024.

Alongside the EP, Beks is unveiling her latest single, “The Best Part of Breaking Up,” accompanied by its official music video.

Beks’s meteoric rise in the music industry has been marked by standout achievements, including selling out her 2023 headline Sydney show for the single “Devoted” and sharing the stage with esteemed artists such as Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Vera Blue, and Girli in London. Her performances have graced iconic venues, including Sydney Mardi Gras Fair Day, Brisbane Fashion Week, Suncorp Stadium, Big Gay Day, and Pride Festival.

In a notable milestone, Beks showcased her versatility with a credited role and performance in Young Rock Season 2, recently aired on HBO, further solidifying her position as a multi-talented artist.

The highlight of Beks’s musical journey has been the creation of “The Best Part of Breaking Up,” a poignant song that emerged from her collaboration with legendary songwriter Richard Rudolph. Richard, renowned for his work on the timeless hit “Lovin You” in 1974, the No. 1 most performed song of all time, joined forces with Beks in early 2023.

The story behind the song is a testament to the healing power of music. Fresh from a heartbreak in New York City, Beks, with the guidance of Richard Rudolph, transformed the pieces of her broken heart into a song of new beginnings and possibilities. The collaboration not only produced a compelling track but also forged an unbreakable friendship between Beks and Richard.

Reflecting on the transformative experience, Beks shared, “This song healed me. By the time I’d made it to Richard in LA, I’d already showcased at SXSW, written in Texas, Nashville, Miami, and gotten dumped in NYC. I was a mess, physically and emotionally. But Richard, with his calm and experienced demeanor, not only assured me I’d be healed by the end of that day in the studio but that I would thrive beyond the suffering of rejection and bloom into greatness.”

“The Best Part of Breaking Up” caught the attention of HAIM, who became personal fans of Beks’s work through Maya Rudolph (SNL, Bridesmaids), Richard’s daughter, during a chance encounter backstage at a Taylor Swift concert.

The single’s music video is set to captivate audiences today, offering a visual feast to complement the emotional depth of the song.

In a statement, Beks expressed her excitement about the music video, saying, “This film just breathes new life. It gave me so much energy to make, and watching what we made in one day in such a unique space was unbelievable. I love all the scenes we made, cutting dead roses and watching new ones grow, oh and the beach with the dolphin. The cheerleaders were something else omg. Getting to work with my mum and all my friends too, it was all symbolic to the scenes. I think it’s my best video yet.”

Directed by Beau Bressington of Bread Productions, the music video is a creative collaboration that came to life in just one week. Bressington shared insights into the creative process, stating, “We had 1 week to turn an idea into a creative collaboration of hustle, ‘fuck around and find out,’ and quick-witted knowledge of film to deliver a music video for Beks’ latest single.”

The video unfolds in a 3000m2 warehouse transformed into an “Amateur theatre rehearsal set” over a full day, adorned with evolving lighting and props that contribute to the visual narrative. The epic finale features the Amazing Silver Bullets, creating a captivating climax to the artistic endeavor.

“We wanted something simple, but impactful, something that pulls you in, waiting for the next scene to appear – an adventure with minimal resources, and I think we did that, all under a 5k budget” Bressington added.

Reflecting on the collaboration with Beks, Bressington emphasized their ability to push each other creatively, saying, “I feel like whenever Beks and I have an idea, we always push each other to the end goal easily, and it’s why I love working with her.”

The release of “The Best Part of Breaking Up” music video is a visual spectacle that adds a dynamic layer to Beks’s artistic expression, offering fans a captivating visual journey alongside the powerful emotions conveyed through the song.

As Beks continues to make waves in the music industry, she is set to return to LA in March 2024 to collaborate further with Richard Rudolph, receiving mentorship and creating more music that promises to captivate audiences worldwide.

“I’m That Girl” marks a defining moment in Beks’s burgeoning career, showcasing her artistry, resilience, and a promise of greatness. Her debut EP is set to release on March 22nd, inviting music enthusiasts to embark on a journey of healing, empowerment, and unbridled musical talent.
