Thumb swiping through various dating apps. A pimple on the cheek – forget it. A bit too tall – forget it. A bit too short – forget it!
We rarely have time to immerse ourselves in another person when we’re dating, according to Danish singer and songwriter Alexander Woods.
The cliché that the grass always seems greener on the other side is alive and well, but how do we shift our mindsets and convince each other that things can be more than just a casual hookup when dating?
Ending the swiping culture
On the new single ‘Forget It’, Woods takes a stand against the dating culture that he himself has been a part of:
“All the big dating apps have made us quicker at writing each other off without giving a real chance. We move on quickly between acquaintances, and that’s a shame. I myself have had a tendency to getting stuck in the single lifestyle and the routine that comes with it”, he explains about the background for the lyrics to the new release. With the song, Alexander Woods hopes to help people give each other a chance and not be so quick to think “forget it” right away.
A music hybrid
Musically, ‘Forget It’ is a hybrid of bubbly electronic and acoustic elements that wrap up the poppy melody in the most beautiful way. While the calm verses depict the curiosity we should have for each other when we’re dating, the energetic and danceable chorus is where love truly overwhelms us.
“On my earlier releases, I’ve had a more organic approach to music, but lately I’ve been going in a slightly more electronic direction. Imagine Harry Styles singing Tom Misch songs”,says Alexander Woods, who produced ‘Forget It’ himself in collaboration with Oscar Elmholt.
