Merry Lamb Lamb, Miso Extra and aimei 媚 usher in the Year of the Dragon with a brand new release ‘Better’, the result of an inspiring music writing camp organised by Platoon’s ‘She Runs The Board’, ‘she said.so’ and ESEA Music, the community for the UK’s East and South East Asian music industry. Shining a light on the ESEA music community and female producers, songwriters & engineers in the industry, it’s a project close to the artist’s hearts.
’Better’ is a stunning mélange of sultry RnB, pared down dubstep and rich techno grooves, a colourful tapestry of sounds seamlessly brought together through the intrinsic interactions between Merry Lamb Lamb’s deft production pairing naturally with Miso Extra’s and aimei 媚’s understated, evocative delivery.
Merry Lamb Lamb says: “It’s interesting to have different mixtures of people coming together with very different personalities that bring something new to the table.” Merry also comments about the single: “A broken heart is like a ghost always following me around. It made me breathless and tired, but I will be better without you because my future self is waiting for me ahead in the line.“
Hong Kong, London based producer Merry Lamb Lamb joined fellow Hong Kong born, Japanese British singer-songwriter Miso Extra and Chinese-British newcomer aimei 媚’ for a 3-day writing camp over Summer and everything just clicked.
aimei 媚 adds: “Merry is a very strong producer and Emily (Miso Extra) is an equally impressive lyricist. To be able to work with other females who are also Asian has felt natural and at home.”
Miso Extra goes on to add: “To me Merry’s production is so euphoric and Aimei’s vocals carry with them a youthful hope so it was hard not to write lyrics to it that carried a sense of optimism. It’s really interesting to see how they work and how they construct their music, it is definitely a big learning experience for me.”
This coming together of minds was made possible through Platoon’s ’She Runs The Boards’ writing camp in partnership with ESEA Music and creative organisation shesaid.so. Drinks were also provided by female asian-led health drinks brand, Good Jamu.
For this brand new program, ESEA Music worked with Platoon to curate and A&R the artists’ group sessions that took place across 3 full days at Platoon’s new state of the art Platoon 7 Studios over in Tileyard London. The aim was to shine a light on the ESEA Music community and to increase the number and visibility of female producers, songwriters & engineers in the industry.
These sessions resulted in 2 brilliant singles from each of the artist groups, the first of which was MEYY x object blue’s ’Shut Up’ in November 2023 and Merry Lamb Lamb’s ‘Better’ featuring Miso Extra and aimei 媚.

About Merry Lamb Lamb:
Loved by the fashion world and at the epicentre of cutting edge sounds, Merry Lamb Lamb is carving a path that’s fully her own. The Hong Kong-born, London-based musician has created an exuberant, artistic persona – someone she would’ve looked up to as a shy teen. Creating late-night, dancefloor minded music, Merry Fung’s sounds are an evocative and ethereal listen.
With the airy quality of early Grimes, Yaeji and Sassy 009, Merry Lamb Lamb’s music is multi-layered and delicately produced, her silky vocal almost ASMR-like in parts. Her tracks are trilingual – she sings in her three tongues, with each language portraying a different side of herself: “When I speak in English, I feel more calm, but in Cantonese, I’m more straightforward, and then Mandarin is more poetic in a sense.”
Released in 2022, her debut album Genesis was an exploration of eclectic ‘80s pop, throbbing house and gently distorted piano keys. Where much of the album looked inward and felt introverted, its follow-up, Exodus, delivers stronger, bolder flavours that are even more club-oriented. It’s a “courageous story about me stepping out, looking for that utopian dream,” she says. To do that, she channelled the “pessimistic”, “pretty angry” feelings she experienced through lockdown.
About Miso Extra:
Miso Extra is the solo project and moniker behind the fast-rising London-based singer, rapper and producer. Born in Hong Kong to a British father and Japanese mother, the artist moved to Japan when she was a child and later relocated to the UK. Growing up, she learnt how to play the violin and loved to sing. Her musical influences include J Dilla, the late MF DOOM, Daft Punk and Kelis. Aside from music, anime inspired the artist, and these references have been woven into her work today.
About aimei 媚:
Chinese-British artist aimei 媚 burst onto the scene in compelling fashion late last year with her debut single V&V’, a razor-sharp pop noir track showcasing stunning vocals, intricate production, and heart-on-sleeve songwriting. A pristine cut hinting at elite potential, the track picked up a raft of blog coverage, including plaudits by The Line Of Best Fit, who praised aimei 媚’s lyrical reliatabiity and likened her to Maisie Peters. With her debut track highlighted on Spotify’s Fresh Finds Pop’s Class of 2023, 2024 looks to be an exciting year for this talented artist.
