ALTERNATIVE POP SONGSTRESS REINTRODUCES HERSELF,
BEGINS NEW ERA WITH BILINGUAL TRACK “AGUARDIENTE”
Miranda del Sol’s latest single “aguardiente” is a deceptively fun song about rejection. From the four on the floor to the analog bass line – everything comes together to formulate an undeniable party track. When the staccato pre-chorus kicks in, so do the flooding feelings that mimic that part of the night where it’s just you and that one person you’ve been locking eyes with. Yet hidden underneath the veil of pop production, del Sol is yearning for someone to keep dancing with her—and she knows it’s not working.
Co-produced with collaborator benchwarmer in their respective NYC bedroom studios, the song overlays del Sol’s Cuban-Argentinian American roots with the textures of the city nightlife. Not much of a party-goer herself, she states “I wanted to make the kind of song that would make anyone want to stay at the party, even for just one more song.”
With lines like “los ojos te vencen/you’re over it” (translation: “your eyes betray you”), her latest still holds the power of her early singles that encapsulate her questioning, yet self-aware lyricism, but the song’s final plea, “si no lo hago por mi then pa quien la hago” (translation: if i’m not doing it for myself then who am I doing it for), suggests Miranda is now setting out to find answers.
Just who does she become when she’s left alone at the party?
