Dicte releases last single before album
Since September, when the first taste of Dicte’s forthcoming album was released, she has received widespread praise for the lead singles. Both ‘Mobile Home’ (below) and ‘Bring Back My Man‘ have been in rotation on Denmark’s leading indie/rock radio station P6 Beat. Dicte’s uncompromising musical universe was been compared to Nick Cave by SheMakesMusic and Nordic Music Central.
“There is still something so damn cool about Dicte, her style and the tone of her voice,” wrote GF Rock, while East Portland Blog compared her distinctive vocals to those of Amy Winehouse and Janice Joplin.
Dicte’s 9th studio album ‘Let’s Escape’ will be released on 31st May, but before that she will release another single, ‘The Song For You’. The song is about the kind of love that can feel forced by family ties, norms and expectations, but has never felt natural or easy or even sober.
“It’s so hard to understand each other when you don’t understand each other,” Dicte explains about the song with a wry smile.
Dicte’s distinctive vocals are on a deeper level than we are used to from her and she is accompanied by a sparse arrangement, with the out of tune piano in particular providing the framework for the harsh narrative of the lyrics. There is nerve, booze, unresolved emotion and intimacy in this raw ballad.
The full album will be released on 31 May.
