Late in 2017, in famed tobacco town Winston-Salem, in a jam box perfumed with stale beer, manly sweat, smokes that “taste good like a cigarette should,” a glass pipe of skunk grass, and the occasional splash of moonshine, Crenshaw Pentecostal began their American saga. It was a low-light grieving session. This group of friends happened to be musicians and a much-loved, inspirational hero of theirs had just passed on. In this late-night wailing session, the only rule was to play it hot and keep the free fallin‘ memory of the then-recently deceased Tom Petty alive.
It worked. Musically and every which way. These friends heard something special in the music they made together. A band was forming and it was going to be great.
With their hearts set on crafting a sound that echoed the raw pain of life in this burning world, Crenshaw Pentecostal began to make music infused with a distinct “Heartbreakers meets the Replacements” vibe. Gritty and authentic, these players soon caught the attention of fans and fellow musicians alike. Sharing stages with ancient legends like Bon Jovi, Gin Blossoms, and Old 97s became a testament to their growing prowess.
But it wasn’t just about rubbing elbows with fading stars; it was about creating music that resonated with their souls and spoke to the hearts of their audience. Someone needed to stick around and rock the middle of the 21st Century and Crenshaw Pentecostal was just the band to do it.
As they traversed from one stage to another, from small-town bars to renowned venues, Crenshaw Pentecostal remained true to their roots and to their vision.
Their music, a fusion of passion, grit, and unadulterated energy, became a beacon for those who sought solace in the power of rock and roll. And as the nights turned into years, their journey continued, a testament to the enduring spirit of music and the unbreakable bond forged between kindred souls on an unending quest for sonic greatness.
