Listen to “Leaves” HERE

Europe’s innovative synth-pop duo, Close to Monday, showcases their musical versatility with their new single Leaves,” out today, June 28. This track continues their highly successful monthly single release series.

“Leaves” showcases the more uptempo, club-ready side of the darkwave duo, renowned for their brooding and haunting sound. The song maintains the introspective lyrics and themes that add depth to their music, resonating deeply with their growing international fanbase.

Opening with ethereal synth lines that gradually build into a full, dynamic arrangement underpinned by driving electronic beats, “Leaves” guides listeners through a narrative with haunting and tender vocals. The track paints vivid pictures of autumnal landscapes and the emotions they stir, offering listeners a powerful journey through both the beauty and melancholy of autumn.

Alexander lays down a stadium-size pulsating groove, while Ann infuses the dancefloor-ready beats with her ethereal vocals and musings on the ephemeral nature of life and time. “The leaves are dancing / They are colored red / They feel so safe / But will not be back…” This track is not just a song; it is an exploration of states of being and a reflection on the impermanence of life. The gentle yet haunting melodies, layered with electronic rock elements, create a sound that is both familiar and otherworldly. The lyrics and instrumental arrangements evoke a deep sense of nostalgia, introspection, and a touch of sorrow, making “Leaves” a resonant piece for anyone who has experienced loss or longing.

“Leaves” follows the success of their previous single, “Phantom,” which also delves into the human psyche, shedding light on the primal need to reconcile with one’s demons and darker side. “We see ourselves as explorers of emotional states,” Close to Monday explains. “With ‘Leaves,’ we wanted to capture a moment in time that is both beautiful and poignant. The falling leaves represent the passage of time and the inevitable changes that come with it. The track is a tribute to those moments of reflection when the past feels close and the present feels fleeting.”

Leaves follows a string of monthly single releases as the hit parade from European electro-pop duo Close to Monday rolls on forcefully.

‘Phantom’ is a majestic single that instantly envelopes the listener, with a classic fusion of ethereal melodies, moody, pulsating synths, and emotive lyrics. Echoing iconic dark wave influences and indie peers, the duo’s sound is elevated into bolder, more sophisticated sonic and emotional realms.   “Phantom” follows on the success of their previous haunting single, Stranger,”which explores the paradox of toxic relationships. CTM were invited as special Guests to perform at this year’s Art Dubai where they played a Silent Disco like set. Watch a preview of CTM at Art Dubai here.

Close To Monday are currently planning dates in the US this fall.

The band has also unveiled their new logo: inspired by the laconic sensuality of the Scandinavian runes, CTM chose the symbols ‘kenaz’ (strength), ‘teiwaz’ (success) and ‘dagaz’ (flow of time). Since ancient times, these runes have protected wanderers from evil, shielding them on their way, helping them to find strength in desperate times.
