Magnadur
I have been asked to review two groups, Earth Ship and Magnadur. The former hails from Germany. A snippet of its press release described this sludge band “is a literal delight to listen to for fans of slow and heavy with a good sound system. A mighty recommendation for doom metal aficionados with an ear for detail and a delicate nose for quality riffs!” Now, this Ministry fan did not even embrace their sludge release, Filth Pig. Earth Ship’s featured single, Ghost Town, definitely slogs through the sludge. Instead of partaking, I will continue to pass this genre.
Magnadur, promoted as a “Finnish Melodic Death Metal Project,” listed Turku, Finland, as the land from which it spawned. Coincidentally, I positively reviewed Cranium, also from Turku, late last year.
I listened to several Magnadur songs on You Tube…several because the “melodic” component obviously became subordinate to a death metal sound, which is a genre I have never embraced. Yes, there were frequent time signature changes, but the guttural vocals just pushed me away. Thus, Magnadur will not appear during my all-Scandinavian fictional music festival.
Now, back to listening to Michel Camilo, a Puerto Rican jazz pianist that I discovered last week after being gifted two of his releases on my birthday!
Ciao ciao for now,
Mark
