July 19, 2024 – Continuing to buzz this summer, Auckland singer-songwriter Will Swinton serves up an upbeat and undeniable new single “Can’t Let Go” out now. This time around, he notably co-wrote and co-produced the track with Peter Fenn [Fred again, Miles Smith, etc.]. “I wrote ‘Can’t Let Go’ while traveling back and forth between Auckland and LA, navigating the complexities of a long-distance relationship,” said Will Swinton, “This song is a reflection of the emotional struggles and challenges that come with being separated from someone you care deeply about.”
Breezy acoustic guitar drives the track’s momentum, while tambourine picks up the pace beneath Will’s emotionally charged delivery. Early on, he urges, “Take my heart, but don’t take the blame.” Once the hook takes hold, he goes on to promise, “Still I’m holding on this time, but I can’t let go.” It illuminates his penchant for honest and heartfelt, yet highly catchy songwriting. The self-directed visual filmed in LA catches the easygoing vibe as Will croons on an outdoor couch next to a guitarist, dog, and friends.
It follows the recent “Letting Me Down.” Beyond piling up hundreds of thousands of streams, it earned critical acclaim. The Honey Pop raved, “his voice alone makes us feel better. It’s raw and emotional, and we can’t help but feel as if we’re going through the situation right alongside him,” and UPROXX hailed it among “All The Best New Pop Music From This Week,” going on to praise, “Will Swinton’s crackly yet smooth vocal tone is immediately striking.”
Prior, he made waves with “Harmless.” Mundane Magazine applauded his “powerful stadium ready voice,” and Happy Mag assured, “With ‘Harmless,’ NZ artist Will Swinton cements his place among music’s upper echelons.” “Harmless” also picked up the momentum from “Daydream.” The latter has not only clocked over a millions of streams, but it has also earned acclaim reaching #5 on the Hot 20 New Zealand Singles Chart. Beyond a plug from Rolling Stone, Sweety High proclaimed “He beautifully captures the angst of unrequited feelings.” While The Honey Pop stated, “We’re in love and completely obsessed with the Auckland singer-songwriter.”
Will Swinton released his debut EP Better Days in October 2023. The EP capped a flurry of momentum for the fresh face. In 2022, his independent single “All For You” cracked the Top 10 of the Hot 20 New Zealand Singles Chart, while “Better Days,” “Wasted You” and “Leave In The Morning” landed in the Top 15.
So far, he has tallied north of 100 million views on TikTok. Beyond collaborating with the likes of Claire Rosinkranz and finding a fan in MGK, Swinton has performed everywhere from SXSW in Austin, TX to The Great Escape in Brighton, UK, and Primavera in Barcelona, Spain. This past year he supported Dermot Kennedy on the New Zealand leg of his tour and performed on mainstage at New Zealand’s largest festival, Rhythm & Vines. This past January Will Swinton made waves with his debut home-country headline tour in New Zealand.
