Cash commented on the release of the track, saying, “It gives me tremendous pride to have recorded this special song. As a Cuban-American, I know the struggles of the Cuban people and that of my very own family and everything they have gone through. As an artist who performs in the Country Music genre in Nashville, I have never shied away from my heritage, and instead incorporate it into everything I do. I am very proud of my origins.”
With heartfelt lyrics, “Patria Y Vida” narrates 60 years of hardship, symbolized by the metaphor of being stuck in a game of dominoes. The song contrasts the everyday suffering of the people with the grand celebrations of the country’s leaders, highlighting the disparity between the two. It calls for unity, dignity, and freedom, urging listeners to envision a Cuba where differences are respected and the true history is acknowledged. The song critiques the propaganda and superficial images of paradise while mothers weep for their lost children, and the people cry for liberty. “Patria Y Vida” is not just a song; it’s a plea for change, a demand for truth, and an anthem for those yearning for a better future.
Produced by John Carter Cash and Ana Cristina Cash, “Patria Y Vida” was recorded and mixed by Trey Call at Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, TN with assistant engineering by Joseph Cash.
