Juno Nominee Salin Crafts ‘Afro Isaan Soul’ On New Single “Puaj”

Today, JUNO nominated drummer, producer, and composer Salin makes her return to announce her forthcoming LP Rammana, set for release onMarch 28, 2025. To celebrate the announcement, she shared new single “Puaj,” the fourth single from the album which introduces a new genre coined “Afro Isaan Soul.” 

“Puaj” showcases the dynamic sounds of the bamboo jew’s harp, creating hauntingly beautiful tones that connect listeners to a rich musical heritage. This unique instrument holds a deep history, originating from various cultures around the world and notably used by the Nyah Kur tribe of Thailand. 

Each note tells a story, echoing the lives and experiences of those who play it,” says Salin. “It’s a reminder that music is a universal language, transcending borders and uniting us all in a shared experience of joy and creativity”.

“Puaj”: Listen / Share

Salin is a Thai-born, Canada-based Juno-nominated drummer, producer and composer. Her current music explores the enchanting sounds of Northeast Thailand and marries it with the 70’s psychedelia of West Africa, all through the lens of modern soulful production. Through her music, she ponders themes of identity, spirituality, and humanity, all paired with a dose of fun to create a unique sonic journey for her listeners.

Her latest release “Si Chomphu” has been in the Top 40 chart of Cat Radio (Thailand) and KCRW (LA). She also has the opportunity to perform at a variety of festivals, including CHANEL Summer Tour 2024, and the Montreal International Jazz Festival (2022,2024). Working with both local Thais as well as Canadian musicians, Salin is bringing together elements of East and West in the form of her second full-length album, set to be released in March of 2025.
