SWEDISH SONGSTRESS SOFIA HÄRDIG DEFIES EVERYTHING IN “KINGDOM COME”

Nearing 5 years since the release of her 8th studio album This Big Hush, Swedish born multiinstrumentalist and producer Sofia Härdig returns with ‘Kingdom Come’, kicking off a series of singles leading to her 2025 album Lighthouse Of Glass.

Self-produced and mixed by Grammy-awarded engineer Nille Perned, ‘Kingdom Come’’ defies traditional musical boundaries. Emerging as a nuanced composition that merges soft-rock sensibilities with post-punk energy, the track is driven by evocative piano and Härdig’s distinctive, haunting vocals. With the uncompromising spirit of Patti Smith coursing through her veins, Härdig crafts an experimental soundscape that’s part punk manifesto, part intricate musical storytelling.

On her upcoming album, Sofia Härdig pushes musical boundaries with a bold, genre-defying exploration that promises to redefine her artistic vision. Härdig assembles an exceptional collective of Swedish musicians to each inject their own artistic depth into her vision, including Robert Johnsson (guitar) from Robert Johnsson and the Punchdrunks, Bebe Risenfors (known for collaborations with Tom Waits and Elvis Costello), trombonist Viktor Brobacke, violinist Sara Edin, and drummer Daniel Ruiz

“This was one of the first songs I recorded with trombone and strings and I knew right away I wanted Viktor and Sara on the whole album.” she says of the single “They just made things fall in the right place. Viktor is lika whole little brass ensemble dragged in  on wheels and out again. Sara is a voice through strings. This song is part of a longer lyric work, a novel… It’s also one of  the songs where you can hear more of my improvised trumpet playing shining through here and there.”

From childhood, Sofia Härdig demonstrated an extraordinary musical sensibility, composing songs using unconventional sound sources like car engines, vacuum cleaners, and boat motors. Her early experimental approach—singing over household appliances and hammering on an ancient, untuned piano—foreshadowed her distinctive artistic trajectory.

Härdig has earned widespread critical acclaim, being nominated for Composer of the Year in Sweden and gaining recognition from legendary artists like Stevie Jackson of Belle and Sebastian and members of Sonic Youth. Her music has resonated internationally, with extensive radio play including BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq Show and German Radio Eins dedicating two hours to her release.

Her impressive collaborative history includes working with Grammy Award winners The Hellacopters and Bob Hund, as well as renowned producers Jari Haapalainen and Nille Perned. Swedish hall of fame artist Jenny Wilson has supported her music, even remixing her single ‘Collision,’ while Härdig has also performed alongside artists like Lydia Lynch and collaborated with Yoshimi from Boredoms. Renowned for spellbinding, high-energy live performances, Härdig challenges musical boundaries, transforming everyday sounds into extraordinary artistic expressions.

‘Kingdom Come’ is out December 6th. With Sofia’s new album Lighthouse of Glass is hailed for release 11th April 2025 via Icons Creating Evil Art and Bark At Your Owner.
