In a thunderous return since their 2023 single ‘Chewed Up’ the experimental noise-rock collective BLOKE have unleashed their latest single, ‘Money Says’, accompanied by a captivating music video. Emerging from the underground scenes of London and Berlin, this genre-defying outfit, led by the enigmatic German artist Jakob Buraczewski, continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the realms of psychedelic rock and Krautrock-inspired soundscapes.

A powerful commentary on the pervasive influence of capitalism and the ways in which it can subtly shape and condition our societal interactions, BLOKE weave a playful, childlike play on words into this weighty thematic tapestry. Drawing inspiration from the game “Simon Says,” the track’s lyrics explore the notion that we often silently comply with the unspoken commands of money. “This subtle agreement can feel like conditioning, offering a poignant commentary on our interactions.” says Buraczewski of the track “The melody features a persistent feedback tone and guitar strums that punctuate the social narrative”

Accompanying the single is a music video, a visual representation of the track’s thematic depth. Directed with a visionary’s eye, the video mirrors the song’s sonic exploration, blurring the lines between reality and the abstract. As the protagonist navigates mundane tasks, the visuals morph and shift, transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Kaleidoscopic imagery and symbolic metaphors create a visually stunning and thought-provoking experience, inviting viewers to delve deeper into BLOKE’s artistic vision.

Buraczewski’s own journey has been a crucial factor in shaping the distinct identity of BLOKE. Hailing from Germany but immersing himself in the vibrant underground music scene of London for five years, the artist has synthesised a diverse array of influences, from the raw energy of garage punk to the mind-bending explorations of Krautrock and psychedelia. This unique fusion of cultural and musical touchstones has allowed BLOKE to carve out a truly singular sonic niche, one that continues to captivate audiences across Europe.

As the band prepares to release their debut EP Living Without Expectations through Tonzonen Records/Cargo Records in early 2025, ‘Money Says’ serves as a tantalising preview of the adventures to come. With each meticulously crafted song serving as a building block in the larger conceptual framework of the project, BLOKE is poised to cement its status as a standout act in the contemporary psych-rock landscape. From the intimate confines of the home studio to the refined atmosphere of the professional recording space, the journey has been one of passion, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of artistic excellence.

‘Money Says’ is out December 13th, whilst their debut EP Living Without Expectations is hailed for release February 14th via Tonzonen Records/Cargo Records.
