Mysterious masked Italian pop star LIBERATO releases his surprise third album ‘LIBERATO III’ on New Year’s Day (1st January 2025) and shares a Napoli F.C inspired video for new single ‘TURNA’.
Renowned for his ability to defy expectations and embrace surprises, Italy’s most sought-after artist continues his musical evolution with his third studio album, laced with blistering, festival-soaring electronic grooves and lyrics professing his love for his home city Naples, this masked artist is shaping the future of Italian dance pop globally. He says: “This is a love letter to electronic music, sprinkled with touches of French touch brilliance here and there. Buon Anno!”
Naples is LIBERATO, and LIBERATO is Naples. LIBERATO is a love story that ended while gazing at the Isle of Capri. LIBERATO is a pulsating club deep, deep in the heart of the Spanish Quarters. LIBERATO is an icon. LIBERATO is a Neapolitan singer who sings in Neapolitan but sometimes in other languages too, blending his esoteric electronic alchemy. LIBERATO is the spring sunset over the Gulf. LIBERATO is a joint at 11 a.m. on the beach. LIBERATO is your ex-girlfriend from Naples.
LIBERATO is all of that.
But nobody knows who he is.
Who is this mysterious phenomenon that is shaking Italy, called LIBERATO ? Multi platinum, + 800M streams, this anonymous and mysterious artist reinvents popular culture and cutting-edge urban pop. He shakes up the codes and unifies the country by filling stadiums.
Valentine’s day, 2017. NOVE MAGGIO is released on LIBERATO’s youtube channel. No one knows who he is. The track, a heart-wrenching take on a love story gone awry, is completely sung in Neapolitan. The production sounds like nothing else out there, smoky, dirty but inherently dramatic.
NOVE MAGGIO quickly reachs millions of streams. Rumors are rising, his second single TU TE SCURDATE ME is a resounding new success, becoming platinum disc in a few months. In September 2017, it’s time for GAIOLA PORTAFORTUNA, followed by the fourth single ME STAJE APPENNENN ‘AMO’. A musical counterpoint that takes him away from trap sounds towards more rnb/electro-eighties arrangements, with lyrics committed to the LGBTQ+ cause, that establishes the artist’s notoriety in the country and launches him onto the Italian festivals’ main stages alongside Bonobo, Jungle, Kraftwerk. 5 months later, INTOSTREET and JE TE VOGLIO BENE ASSAJE are released, a few days before May 9, 2018, where he gives a surprise concert in his hometown, Naples, in the presence of more than 20,000 people and, soon after at the legendary Sonar Festival in Barcelona, Spain. After 6 months of silence, he returns to headline Rock in Roma.
On May 9, 2019 LIBERATO releases his debut album, which comes with five brand new tracks and CAPRI RENDEZ-VOUS on YouTube: a video-series consisting of 5 music videos, each corresponding to the new tracks. And as usual, all directed by Francesco Lettieri, the longtime director.
In 2020, he signs the soundtrack of Francesco Lettieri first film, ULTRAS, including the theme song, WE COME FROM NAPOLI, in duet with the singer (also Neapolitan) 3D (Massive Attack). He will reappear with E TE VENG’ A PIGLIÀ, on May 9, 2021, this time merging his Neapolitan pop with Spanish bachata.
Exactly a year later, he unveils his 2nd album, LIBERATO II. The tracks will be first performed live a couple weeks later at Procida (near Naples), through a gorgeous acoustic liveshow, in the middle of the sea then in Milan in front of a bubbling crowd of 25 000 people.
In 2023, LIBERATO takes on his first european tour, that leads him to Berlin, Paris, London (sold out twice) and eventually his hometown, Naples, for the first time since 2018, for 3 astonishing liveshows (75000 people in total). All you can ever dream / expect from a liveshow, it’s there. And with Napoli F.C winning the Scudetto (Italian Premiere League) earlier in the year, the city has never smiled this big for a long time.
2024 marks a turning point in a magnificent seven year career culminating with the highly anticipated release of the movie ‘Il segreto di Liberato‘ in which the artist stars as the narrator, telling all his story on how LIBERATO was born.
Since his debut, LIBERATO’s songs and videos have created a new Neapolitan aesthetic, far removed from the stereotypical vision of the city, its folklore and crime. We get to see Milanese, Turinese and Neapolitans singing in unison in the same concert; Italy had not experienced such a phenomenon from the south since the 1950s.
More than the messenger, the main thing is, as often, the message.
And right now that message is FORZA NAPOLI.
