Please rock seriously with “Shepherd’s delight”, the new single from Caspian Coberly’s forthcoming album, Starlight, set for release on April 11, 2025.
Starlight is a collection of timeless songs, reminiscent of late-60s and early-70s masterpieces like T. Rex’s The Slider, John Lennon’s Imagine, and Derek & The Dominoes’ Layla. Caspian wrote, produced and played all instruments.
Coberly is a Seattle native that plays frequently with his own band as well as with Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden) in their side project, “Is this Real?”
The album was recorded in a bedroom in Seattle, with a couple of sessions at Sunset Sound in LA. “Shepherd’s Delight” stands out as an electric slide guitar masterpiece with intricate rhythms, drawing inspiration from George Harrison’s lead work on Imagine.
Here’s what Coberly has to say about his new song, “Shepherds delight developed from my experiments in electric slide guitar playing. Over the past couple of years, I have been massively influenced by George Harrison’s lead work on John Lennon’s Imagine album and have added these techniques to my guitar repertoire. In addition to the slide work, I wanted this track to feature a somewhat complex rhythm component; I spent hours upon hours developing the drum and bass parts. This track evokes elements of Physical Graffiti-era Led Zeppelin, The Slider-era T. Rex, Imagine-era John Lennon, and Tres Hombres-era ZZ Top.”
Working it out on a few early releases, Coberly found that although young people continue to discover and adore post-Invasion British rock, the specific magic of that era is missing in modern music, forcing fans to relish in the relics of a peak period. With Starlight, the canon of flawless, consummate rock ’n’ roll continues.
