YOU SAID STRANGE hail from Normandy (France), and offer an indie rock sound combining psych-rock, post-rock, shoegaze and proto-grunge.

Their music is inspired by their human experiences and their relationship with the world. It’s the work of passionate musicians, combining the dazzling power of instruments and the union of voices to create a fusion of melancholy and energy. It’s also the result of their European and American tours, as well as encounters and collaborations with like-minded enthusiasts. Such as Peter G. Holmstrom (The Dandy Warhols), with whom they recorded their mystical, psychedelic debut album Salvation Prayer (2018), in Portland at the legendary studio The Odditorium. Or the iconic Kevin Cole, who invited them to perform live in the studios of the prestigious KEXP radio station, where their global project Thousand Shadows (Vol.1 & Vol.2) (2021, 2023) emerged. These two albums were recorded in their home studio, then mixed and mastered in New York by Daniel J. Goodwin (Kevin Morby, The National, This Is The Kit, …). Powerful, reverberant and melodious, they embody an acquired maturity, combining more personal statements and assertive music with successful risk-taking, notably thanks to the addition of a flamboyant saxophone. This maturity is also reflected in their latest EP, TRADE YOUR SOUL (2024), which concludes the overall Thousand Shadows project and opens up new horizons. While retaining the band’s sonic identity, this latest project introduces a few new features and experiments to offer an even more striking musical approach, capturing life’s most intense emotions and experiences while offering hope.

Overall, YOU SAID STRANGE uses spiritual metaphors to invite us to reflect on how we function in our human relationships and personal achievements. Touching on love, self-confidence, betrayal and disillusionment.

The sincerity of their message and the power of their music are also evident on stage, where the members are spontaneous in their performances. “Our DNA is live. We can’t see ourselves defending our music any other way.”
