Rammana LP Out March 28
JUNO nominated drummer, producer, and composer Salin shares a new single and video “Painted Lady.” The latest offering from her upcoming LP, Rammana, out March 28, is a soulful and instrumental ballad that weaves together a smooth, tender melody with an underlying current of turmoil of watching the world rush forward at an uncontrollable pace.
Premiered via Glide Magazine, the song’s serene, flowing arrangement lulls you into a reflective state, while the relentless, almost chaotic drumbeat beneath it mirrors the inner conflict and the urgency of our times. The song starts with a soothing melody drifting like a calm, fading sunset but during the drums solo section, the drums clash in an unyielding rhythm, symbolizing the friction between the beauty of the earth and the chaos brought on by human progress.
The track draws inspiration from the Painted Lady in Avatar: The Last Airbender, an animated series influenced by monastic Tibet, Japanese villages, and Thai kingdoms. A benevolent spirit revered for her healing and protective abilities, the Painted Lady is the central figure of the series. As the guardian spirit of Jang Hui, a fishing village, she was forced to leave due to escalating water contamination. Her eventual return was due to the efforts of Team Avatar in assisting the villagers with river cleanup.
In this performance video, Salin impersonates Painted Lady to reflect her feeling of helplessness towards our destructive behaviors towards nature. The vibrant falling leaves symbolize the decaying of seasons and Salin’s drumming reflects the chaos brought by human progress. The scenery is a way to reconnect people with nature.
“‘Salin’ also means river/water of life in Thai, reflecting my connection with the Painted Lady,” Salin says. “I made a prayer that if there’s an Indian summer, I would film this video, as Canadian fall weather is simply too cold for anyone to be outside without a coat. One weekend, Indian summer came and the leaves were the perfect color for us to film ‘Painted Lady.’ I found the perfect location where the sun hits perfectly during the golden hour. In one of the takes, the leaves coordinatingly blow around me during the peak of the song. We simply couldn’t plan all of this. This shows that when things just happen perfectly, it is only through an act of God and he/she is there whenever we need.”
Salin’s composition evokes a deep yearning to pause and preserve what remains, even as the world spins faster toward an uncertain future.

Salin is a Thai-born, Canada-based Juno-nominated drummer, producer and composer. Her current music explores the enchanting sounds of Northeast Thailand and marries it with the 70’s psychedelia of West Africa, all through the lens of modern soulful production. Through her music, she ponders themes of identity, spirituality, and humanity, all paired with a dose of fun to create a unique sonic journey for her listeners.
Her single “Si Chomphu” has been in the Top 40 chart of Cat Radio (Thailand) and KCRW (LA). She also had the opportunity to perform at a variety of festivals, including CHANEL Summer Tour 2024, and the Montreal International Jazz Festival (2022, 2024). Working with both local Thais as well as Canadian musicians, Salin is bringing together elements of East and West in the form of her second full-length album, set to be released in March of 2025.
