A few points to not talk about, for once đ It seems so many are working their little minds so hard in fruitless avenues, so it should be noted that:
1. The government will not be getting “smaller” – no matter what you define “smaller” as. Why? For one thing, the country is getting bigger, like it or not (I don’t). For another, “government” is big business, and vice versa. You want to try to trim a few points off big business’ influence over government? A bit late, but go ahead. The dynamic of negotiating for “concessions” with those that run this country has been in place for a long time (some Presidents ignore it, others don’t as much), and I’m a big fan of collective bargaining. Health care was a good starting point – no matter what your ideology or state of denial may be, everybody gets sick… and sickness is expensive and draws jackals to the kill.
2. Roe v. Wade will never be overturned. The police will not be patrolling for abortionists or those who have an abortion. Neither will you, unless you like jail cells and soap on a rope. No, don’t argue, forget it. Drop it. Go live in a monastery or something, if you can’t stand living in such a godless society.
3. No one is going to take our guns away. The national trend is more gun ownership, not less – and this administration, beginning with the signing of the National Parks repeal, acknowledges this. Democrats own firearms, Republicans own firearms. We have a good thing going, and it’s foolhardy to provoke the Brady bunch with public displays of firearms, like this is some Confederate banana republic. Same goes for idiotic 2nd Amendment marches. All that ammo bought in panic is starting to be dumped back into the market, thank god.
4. Immigrants (of both the legal and illegal variety) are not going away. For some reason, the Statue of Liberty will remain open for business for awhile longer. If you don’t like minorities… the USA, for quite some time, has not been the place for you. We are not going to deport all the illegals, nor will we ever truly secure our borders. If big business wanted those things to happen, they would have happened already. Which leaves us with formulating some sort of legal residency/taxation program. Do it. You might not like it – for practical purposes, immigration doesn’t do anyone in this country any favors besides politicians and Business. And immigrants. But it’s time to be realistic.
