Graig Markel Composes Soundtrack to Run Free Documentary

Graig_Markel_Band_PicThe soundtrack of Run Free, a documentary based on the true story of Caballo Blanco, is now available. The beautiful collection consists of thirteen original tracks from accomplished Seattle producer, Graig Markel.

Markel is a songwriter, producer and sound designer credited with creating the genre ‘Broken Soul,’ a mixture of downtempo rock, and R&B that has influenced artists such as Head Like a Kite, Her Space Holiday, and many more.

Markel’s soundtrack for the film is an atmospheric, brilliantly haunting score that experiments with electronic instrumentation, droning synths, and exceptionally performed instrumentation. The music is complex and even introspective, aligning closely with a western theme throughout.

The subject of the documentary, Caballo Blanco, or Micah True, was an American ultrarunner who received significant recognition as a key character in Christopher Mcdougall’s book, ‘Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen.’ Blanco suffered an untimely death in 2012 and has since become an inspirational icon within the sport of ultra running.

Markel is also working on a host of other things, some of which are his freelance producing, scoring, and band projects such as the Animals at Night and Dead Ship Sailing.

On Friday, April 3, Markel will be playing a live show in Seattle at the Rendezvous Theater. Tickets for the event are available through the theater’s online ticketing service ($6) and the show is slotted for 9:30 that evening. (21+)
