This is Shawn Lambert. He is a fellow American that invited me to HIS session where I got my big break at Sly & Robbie‘s studio in Kingston.
This was a magic moment as he took a break from working on his stellar Michelle Obama inspired Hip Hop / Dancehall track with Sly and company to talk about how excited he was to be here right now, working on this song with its important message the world still needs to hear more of. The anthem is called,
‘They Aim Low, We Aim High’.
For complex reasons the song didn’t get the push it could have. It’s an awesome track. I was planning on flying up Shawn out of my own pocket from Houston to perform at BrodieNation Music Festival this July, but I got laid off a month before I was set to return to Kingston to release and promote my hit that happened because of his honest kindness to a fellow artist.
I want to do more to promote his song and I want him to experience Brodie Nation as an artist.
I think about this guy ALL the time. It’s hard not to because this is the man behind THE MIRACLE.
…and when the sun burst behind him as we talked about how incredible it was to be in center of the Dancehall Universe, becoming instant friends, the sky was saying to us,
“Yeah man.”
This is not the last time you’ll hear about Shawn and how much I appreciate him. He wanted me to witness and help document his moment. And by God, I will continue to celebrate his music.
I wish there was a link and a mix that captures what that song should be. His step daughter sang the hook and Sly and his team built a monster track around it as Shawn spit powerful bars speaking Truth to Power, immediately following the election of Donald Trump that left so many stumped.
This was a moment where for good & evil, we asked ourselves,
“Is this real life?”
Back to work listening to Toots & the Maytals as I try to clean my office before I open GreenWorks Medical and Recreational.
Stay up. Up. Up. Up Shawn. You got a fan out here in Seattle and I will bring you more.
