BIO
Summer 2016, having recently moved to Stockholm, Sweden, Merseyside twins Martin and Fran Baxter with James Corden conceived Birthday Girl whilst living in a single room with one folding down bed and DJing for pocket money. Fran on vocals and guitar, Martin on drums and James on bass, with Sweden’s Joakim Sandegård joining soon after. The band focused on creating music that combined raw aggression and noise, with gentle melodies and harmony.
They released their first single “Welcome Home Frank Bastard” on UK label “Hide And Seek Records” in 2017, a song about a lonely man taking out his frustration on his pet cat. The single was picked up by Iggy Pop who featured it on his BBC6 music radio show and the group began playing live around Stockholm.
After a night DJing in a local bar they found a credit card on the floor which happened to belong to the Glasvegas singer James Allan, upon returning the card they struck up a friendship, which lead to James inviting Birthday Girl to open for Glasvegas on their 2018 UK tour.
Following the UK tour the band joined Underground Youth on their Swedish tour dates before taking to the studio during Winter 2018 to start work on their debut record.
Birthday Girl will return to the live scene this Spring (2019), touring Europe, playing shows in Sweden, Norway, England, Germany and France.
