More than a few genre-bending artists have thrown their country music hats into the ring by reimagining Johnny Cash‘s mariachi-infused meditation on the “south of the equator” lady part, “Ring of Fire.” [The anatomical origin of the song is alleged by Johnny Cash’s first wife, Vivian Liberto, in her memoir, I Walked the Line: My Life with Johnny, where she claims that Johnny and a male friend wrote the song on a drunken fishing trip and not– as Johnny would later claim– with his eventual second wife, the outwardly prudish and ostentatiously religious, June Carter Cash.]
Folk pop songstress Katrina Parker is the latest to ignite the ominous textures of the fabled track. “It ended up taking a darker, more dramatic turn,” Katrina notes. “A bit of a Westworld meets Deadwood meets The Andrews Sisters vibe.”

The track is the only cover on Katrina’s forthcoming desert folk pop-tinged LP Stars [due out 9-6-19].
